Welcome to Andy Lee Storyboards !

Background:

Andy is an illustrator who has specialized in both comps and storyboards for the advertising and entertainment industries since 1995. He is experienced with both conventional and digital works.

Andy received five years of academic art training from the Hong Kong Academy of Fine Arts in Hong Kong in the mid 1970's. The training was rooted in Russia's realistic method. He then furthered his education and perfected his skills in various prestigious American art institutes, including Art Academy of Los Angeles and California Arts Institute.

He resides in Los Angeles, California and usually works on-site with art directors at client's locations. He welcomes out-of-states and international clients.

The working methods:

- Conventional

1. "Roughs" are done in Col-erase pencil and are very loose to establish compositions and details. Andy usually submits these for approval via either e-mail or fax.

2. "Final Pencil" in Prismacolor. Andy photocopies this cleaned-up version of line art and later colors it. Andy prefers to get second approval after this revision, or established clients would trust him to move on to the next step - Color.

3. Final Color Version. Andy use marker, gouache and color pencil in various combination to color the photocopy of the final drawing. The original drawing is preserved in case changes are needed. The final image is then be scanned and saved as a graphics file to be transferred via the internet. The original hard copy is also available to be couriered overnight at the client's request.

- Digital Color

The "Roughs" and the "Final Pencil" steps are the same in step 1 and step 2 of the conventional method above.

The "Digital Color" step, Andy scans the final drawing into the computer and then uses the graphic industry standard software, Adobe Photoshop, to apply digital color directly onto the drawing file. The final image will then be saved as a graphics file to be transferred via Internet.
